Smoke bush creates a dramatic shot of colour in the landscape, with a spectacular foliage and floral display. The leaves are 3-8 cm long rounded ovals, green with a waxy glaucous sheen. In late spring the purplish leaves look fantastic when the mass of unusual flowers bloom, giving the whole shrub a smoky look. In autumn the leaves colour can be strikingly varied, changing from purple-green to orange-yellow.
Rounded paddle shaped leaves of mid green becoming brilliant orange shade in autumn. Upright shrub which spreads with age. Many tiny mauve-pink flowers on fine stems gives an attractive hazy effect.
Will grow in most garden soils in sun or partial shade. Cold, frost, wind and drought tolerant (combine with “Care”)
Enrich soil with a little well rotted compost in a good thick mulch layer but keep mulch clear of trunk. It prefers moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
